Sion Presbyterian Cemetery, Winnsboro, SC

Just added a gravestone photo for Margaret Crawford (born c. 1793, died 1/19/1864 aged 71). Not sure if this is her maiden or married name.

Any ideas?

There are also new updates for several other Surnames: Crawford, Matthews, Elliott and more.

Hi! Your death date for Margaret is off by 100 years, ;-) but I'm hoping that this marker may give me a clue to a brick wall on my family. I found you through your Cathcart lines, and was able to add a couple generations of Cathcarts, Ann Ellen Cathcart is my ancestor who married Isham J. Rhoden.

Kay,
Thanks a million for pointing out my error. It's fixed the date with the correct century now.

Unfortunately, you may not find much of use in Fairfield County, South Carolina with the line of Cathcarts you’re researching. Ann Ellen Cathcart’s father was Matthew Newton Cathcart. I have found no evidence that this family passed through that area of South Carolina (except on their way south… some to Coweta County, Georgia and others to Alachua County, Florida).

Having said that, however, there are tantalizing hints to connections between my line of Cathcarts (County Antrim, Ireland > Chester County then Fairfield County, SC) and this line, which seems to descend from a John Cathcart and a Mary or Felicity Fisher and started off in the time of the Revolution in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina.

In any case, I’d love to share whatever info you have on this line. I just spent the last couple of hours filling in Isham J. Rhoden’s line and will update that info online shortly.

Thanks again,
John Cathcart

Hi,

I don't know if this blog is still being monitored but I hope it is.
I have been conducting genealogy research lately and have found a common thread with one of the families you mention in one of your posts. The family is the Donnelly family, ministers in a couple of churches in South Carolina. If you are monitoring this I'd love to chat with you! You can contact me at the following email address: theurbanslp@gmail.com
Thanks,
